New Zealand uses dual place names

I have travelled extensively in New Zealand in the past few years and have been pleased to see that in the naming of all sorts of locations throughout the country, both the Maori and the colonial names are often used together.

This is a sign of respect for both cultures and a very acceptable solution. For example, the highest peak in the Southern Alps is referred to as Aoraki/Mt. Cook on all maps.

Why not then Pkols/Mt. Douglas?
