New mayor out of line with contract

Regardless of Mayor Lisa Helps’s unwise move offending a large portion of Victorians by refusing to pledge allegiance to the Queen, she has now taken her beliefs to a new level that might be viewed as arrogant and questionable.

Helps is now proposing to award a contract — not open for public bid, on her demand — because she does not believe in an open, competitive tender for a contract using public funds.

Hello?

This is a firm, led by Domenico Lepore, who by Helps’s own admission “did help with some of my pre-campaign planning in terms of how I think about the city, but he did not make a contribution, financial or in kind.”

Helps needs to understand he did make a contribution in kind to her campaign and she is now proposing giving him an untendered contract three times higher than that awarded by the previous government. Clearly a conflict.

This new mayor needs to be brought into line.
