New homeowner irked by sludge-plant proposal

As luck would have it, I recently bought my house across the street from the proposed Viewfield sewage-treatment plant. My wife and I have worked hard to acquire a home in the region. We have lived in Vic West for the past five years and love the things that Vic West and Esquimalt have to offer.

While looking for our first house, I was concerned about the sewage-treatment plans. I emailed the Capital Regional District specifically to ask which areas would be affected by the treatment facility at McLoughlin Point, and any sludge trucking or processing routes.

With the information provided by the CRD, I felt I was armed with enough knowledge to make a wise purchase, and put an offer on my new house. We were still in the process of moving things from our previous rental house a couple of blocks away when we read about the proposed siting of the sludge-treatment plant. To say this was devastating is an understatement.

I am furious that the CRD did not mention this plan when I was investigating before putting down my offer on this house. I would not be surprised if my house has already lost more than $50,000 in value simply because of this possibility, not one week after my purchase, and this is incidental to the stress and anger it has caused us during what should be an exciting part of our lives.
