New Conservative leader unlikely to sway voters

Re: “Trump could inspire a new Conservative party,” letter, Nov. 11.

The letter writer seems to suggest that Canada emulate electing a leader who openly mocks the disabled, fans the flames of racism, denies the existence of climate change and is a sexual predator.

He chooses as his running mate an arch-conservative who has engineered some of the most punitive legislation of any state in the union. His recipe for prosperity includes tax breaks for the wealthy and the much-beloved by all conservatives “smoke and mirrors” trickle-down economic policy.

It should be remembered that if the “trickle” starts at the top, there isn’t much left at the bottom for the working poor. If the new Conservative party leader wishes to fly under such a “time-tested” and “common-sense” ideology, then he or she is unlikely to succeed with the Canadian electorate.
