The writer is rightly critical of your otherwise helpful editorial about the responsibilities of cat owners. Responsible owners will keep their pets indoors or confined to the owner’s property. But further, local governments should finally deal with the issue of cat licensing and control with bylaws.
We, as cat owners and as a society, allow them to roam freely, defecating in people’s vegetable gardens and sandboxes, transmitting pathogens and killing millions of birds and small animals annually. No other domesticated animal is allowed this freedom.
