As a born-and-raised Victorian with property near the proposed Mount Edwards shelter, I am fast losing my patience with the NIMBYs who are complaining about the impact it will have on our neighbourhood.

Are they unaware that Mount St. Angela on Burdett Street already provides a home for people with disabilities that made many of them homeless before a place was found for them? How about the transition house just a few blocks away? The fact is, the area around Christ Church Cathedral already has a multitude of residences for the displaced and otherwise homeless.

I am prepared to wager that most of those complaining are not native to this city. They, too, are refugees from the cold and bugs of mainland Canada or even further afield. This might be the time to mention how unhappy I was when they expected me to make room for them.

Welcome to paradise, neighbours. Now move over and make room yourselves.
