Mine decision shows Liberal arrogance

The announcement that the B.C. Liberals, while still in technical power, gave permits to Taseko Mines for mining on Tsilhqot’in First Nation land is very disappointing.

The announcement that the B.C. Liberals, while still in technical power, gave permits to Taseko Mines for mining on Tsilhqot’in First Nation land is very disappointing. This has been an issue for a long time, and without any consensus of the First Nations people, this arrogant and deceitful government issued mining permits to Taseko.

In this time of renewed and revolutionary opportunity to welcome and uphold the rights of First Nations people throughout our province, and the “new” opportunity to develop a new way of politics that is more balanced for all, we have seen once again what the previous government really intended.

This action is a clear indication that more than anything, we really need strict term limits. After 16 years in power, what can you expect? The actions smack of arrogance, complete entitlement and disregard for anyone other than themselves or big money; they insult many.

At a time of “state of emergency,” when the land involved is ravaged by wildfires, this underhanded announcement can only be described as despicable. It is sincerely hoped that the new government can rescind or cancel these permits until agreement can be reached by all parties.
