Re: "Living up to the spirit of the liquor laws is an art," Nov. 3.
I read Jack Knox's article with a level of disgust, outrage and total disbelief that our liquor laws are so arcane. I have been attending Larry's openings as an invitee for years, never realizing I was part of a large conspiracy to break the laws of B.C.
He is not selling wine and tapas with-out a licence, thereby "competing" with restaurants. He is not flogging free booze to the homeless. He is simply trying to host a classy evening.
Seriously, when will this stupidity end? Perhaps B.C. liquor legislation needs to be completely revamped to stop trying to save us from ourselves, to stop trying to thwart competition, to stop trying to impede charities.
The entire mess, including the Belfry debacle, is ridiculous.
We have spectacular scenery, grizzly bears and beautiful weather, but I'm sure visitors from abroad are astounded how many rules and regulations regulate our behaviour here in "Beautiful B.C."
Heaven help them if they would like an after-dinner cigarette and port.
