Letter: Trudeau breaks promises with Site C approval

I could scarcely believe my eyes at the news that the government has approved the Site C dam permits.

I could scarcely believe my eyes at the news that the government has approved the Site C dam permits.

This decision goes against so many of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s promises — to deal nation-to-nation with First Nations, to protect the environment, to reduce greenhouse gases, to stem the tide of climate change, and to make scientific and economic decisions based on fact rather than some ideological notion.

There is no reasoned opinion to support this decision.

Didn’t Trudeau and his ministers take seriously the outrage from the many of us who continue to be committed to doing everything we can to stop this travesty? There will be protests. There might be civil disobedience. This is not a threat, only the truth. There are broken hearts — in First Nations communities, among Peace River farmers, and much farther afield all across British Columbia.

My hope now rests with the First Nations’ court case, but why is it that they again have to bear the brunt of standing up for what is right? Why is it that they have to shoulder all of Canada? And why the rush with several court cases pending?
