Let’s move closer to amalgamation

Re: “Two mayors join push for regional policing,” Jan. 24.

The recent debate on police merger once again shows how fragmented and outmoded our municipal structure is. For all of the councillors and other officials who are against any rationalisation of services or bold developments in the various little “kingdoms” that make up the Capital region, I offer a quote by Harold Wilson, former prime minister of the U.K.: “He who rejects change is the architect of decay.”

Sadly, our wonderful community is beginning to show a slow decay. One only needs to take a look around to see it. Let’s move forward and welcome change and bold development. Let’s get on with forming a regional police force and some municipal amalgamation. Let’s not be against every development proposal. Preserving some heritage is nice but we don’t want to live in a “museum.”
