Lawsuit drags on while criminal trials dropped

The editor asks why after nearly 20 years there is no end in sight to the lawsuit the province launched against the tobacco industry in 1998. That’s a very thought-provoking question, considering our law courts will often throw out criminal trials if they have not proceeded within a few years of their inception.

Methinks it has something to do with the fact that there are two very deep pockets (government and tobacco industry) providing money to lawyers. Let’s face it, the justice system is run by lawyers (judges) and often their sons and daughters become lawyers.

Am I cynical?
