Lack of democracy in sewage project

There are many things about this project that “rile” anyone who has read about or listened to the plans regarding this muddle. This is yet another. The Capital Regional District board now says it will decide, after all, to consider bids without advice from the advisory commission they themselves voted as necessary to remedy their own lack of expertise.

In addition, there is a lack of democracy in the CRD activities which they appear to consider necessary to enable them to “push” things through: limiting the public’s speaking time at meetings, holding secret votes, allowing people’s abstention votes to be counted as supporting their views, paying large sums for studies but ignoring anything that might support opposition, refusing to listen to the Titus proposal when the public is not pleased with the design they have suggested, etc.

We and our children will be paying for this venture for decades to come. We deserve accountability and transparency, but are only allowed to see anything “through a glass darkly.”
