Re: "Vancouver Island should be a province," Nov. 11.
The writer is right in pointing out that our tax dollars would then remain on the Island to help fund our infrastructure needs instead of being siphoned off to fund megaprojects on the Lower Mainland.
But I suggest that we take the notion one step further. Make the Province of Vancouver Island a low-tax haven like the Grand Caymans with the goal of attracting international financial institutions and high technology industry. The job and wealth-creating potential for the Island could be immense.
Vancouver Island is one of the best places on earth to live. The brightest minds would want to live on the Island and develop their businesses if a low-tax environment made it attractive for them to locate here.
