Improve sewage project so it will last 100 years

I am disappointed with the “end-of-pipe” sewage treatment solutions offered by Shaun Peck. He either advocates for marine discharge (dilution is not the solution) or calls for a centralized sewage plant at Macaulay Point. I presume this idea would include Clover Point, for it is also located at “end-of-pipe,” is within Department of National Defence lands and has ample room for a sewage plant.

I have walked around Clover Point; there would be as much buffer between a plant and nearby houses as proposed for the Viewfield sludge plant, so I am sure Victoria council would approve of it.

Peck and his supporters are throwing their efforts down the drain; they should be arguing against the Viewfield sludge plant location and the absurdity of applying biosolids to our land.

We need to hit pause on this project and improve it so that it lasts for 100 years, not for less than half a generation. We need to maximize the amount of resources extracted from sewage, for both economic and sustainability reasons. Cities around the world and in Canada are doing this at far less cost and greater benefit than that proposed by the Capital Regional District.

Our region deserves better.
