How do we define the ‘rich’?

“A party that allows the rich to live high off the backs of the middle class and working poor is not a democracy” is an interesting statement. It raises the question: Who are the rich, really? And how did they get “there”?

Are doctors, dentists and lawyers, for example, the “rich”? Really? They worked hard in school, achieved high marks, entered university, then various graduate schools or colleges, took on large student debt along the way, and then were rewarded with “lucrative” careers within their professions.

What about entrepreneurs who borrowed money to underwrite their dreams, took risks, worked their tails off, and in the end might have realized financial rewards for their efforts? Are they also the “rich”?

This is democracy, and freedom of choice, pure and simple. Any levelling off of this concept can be called something else. Socialism comes to mind.
