Re: "Health minister encourages home births in low-risk cases," Nov. 1.
Since I experienced a home birth, I'm in favour of them.
On Dec. 19, 1974, I went to the Jubilee Hospital because of birth pains three weeks before the due date of our child. Nothing happened, except the doctor saying, "You're supposed to be giving birth. Go on home!"
The following evening, after 20 minutes of labour, our son popped out onto our kitchen floor. As my husband cut the umbilical cord, he said, "Good thing I learned this in Boy Scouts."
Our son is now five foot 10 and healthy. So I support home births, but less traumatic ones with a midwife.
