No golf course paid by taxpayers

The civic brain trusts contend that Cedar Hill provides affordable golf recreation that other courses do not.

There is no such thing as affordable or unaffordable. There is only what it costs and who pays that cost. There is only taking from others for the benefit of those who don't pay their share.

All costs are covered, partly by the golfers, partly by municipal taxpayers, partly by provincial and federal taxpayers (through loss of revenue via less corporate or personal income taxes collected because of lost sales to the privately owned non-subsidized golf businesses).

I believe that government should not be in any business that private enterprise can provide. There are plenty of golf opportunities provided by taxpaying citizens who deserve our business to reward their risk. If there were no other golf courses, then that would be another matter.

Saanich should get out of the golf game. Maybe it was a needed facility 80 years ago, but not anymore.
