Re: “Esquimalt rejects sewage ‘Goliath,’ ” April 8.
Capital Regional District director Geoff Young can take heart; all is not lost on the sewage treatment plant project. I just noticed that there is a large former industrial site near the proposed Esquimalt site.
It is a much larger site and well set back from the shoreline. It is almost vacant, being used for automobile storage, a maintenance service yard and the storage of seasonal tourism paraphernalia.
Better still, I am sure that all the CRD’s engineering planning for the Esquimalt site is applicable for this other site. And there is a bonus: The CRD doesn’t have to sink a large sewage pipe across Victoria Harbour.
And where is this miracle site, you ask? It is in the city of Victoria, so the district has a leg up on getting the re-zoning process going without delay. You guessed it, it is Ogden Point — go for it!
