Re: “Public consultations no alternative to leadership,” Jan. 25.

I commend the words of Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce CEO Bruce Carter on public consultations.

One of the problems I see on Victoria city council is this growing “lead through consultation” approach. Nothing wrong with feedback from those wishing to express it; however, at the end of the day, elected officials are elected to lead.

With respect, this growing sense that public consultation will in itself deliver the information necessary to make sound policy decisions is a lame duck. It’s a tool that should be put back in its rightful home — a tool box.
