Droughts point to need for more conservation

Re: “B.C. to review bottled-water rates,” July 14.

Our planet, Earth, is running out of potable water. California is experiencing drought and running out of water. There is an ongoing drought here in B.C.

Why are we wasting our water by practically giving it away to Nestlé? Why is the B.C. government intent on wasting our most precious natural resource, our water, in favour of big business, without taking into account the environment, people and future generations? LNG is not a substitute for water. People cannot drink LNG.

The petition to charge Nestlé the appropriate price is a wrong move. It will trigger NAFTA regulations about supplying the U.S. and Mexico, regardless of whether the supply is enough.

B.C. water should not be sold for any reason. Our water should be harnessed and protected for the people of B.C. and its future generations. Water should not be included in international trade.

Extracting LNG by fracking will need enormous amounts of water, not to mention the pollution and contamination fracking would cause to the environment. Right now, we are enjoying and drinking clean water. Please keep it that way.

Are these foreign investments good enough to justify contaminating our lakes, rivers and streams, and killing our wildlife? Do they justify drying up our water supply in favour of big business? What about beautiful British Columbia, what about the people of B.C.? What about future generations?
