Downtown bus depot not working out

I had the dubious pleasure of saying farewell to some guests the other day, at the so-called downtown “bus depot.” What a disaster.

I had the dubious pleasure of saying farewell to some guests the other day, at the so-called downtown “bus depot.”

What a disaster. Not only did the “airport connector” bus (booked well in advance, to catch a plane in Vancouver) fail to show up, but there were crowds milling about on the sidewalk, there was no place to drop off passengers or park, and there was no shelter from the rain. When I tried stopping in a loading zone, a bus almost backed into me.

It was really embarrassing to leave these seasoned travellers returning to Europe in such a chaotic situation.

Is that the image that Victoria and B.C. want visitors to leave with? The impression was more one of third-world jungle bus stop than sophisticated city-transportation hub.

Victoria needs a proper bus depot, off-street, now.
