All those not in favour of the current Capital Regional District sewage plan should commit, in November’s municipal elections, not to vote for any municipal politician sitting on the CRD board who has voted for the sewage treatment plan, regardless of their politics.

Saanich and Victoria voters would wield the most clout, as they each have several members on the CRD board. We could lose some long-standing and well-meaning local politicians in this process, but we could also avoid spending nearly a billion dollars on a plan that will achieve little benefit for the environment or for us.

In order to make an informed decision, everyone is going to have to pay more attention to how their municipal representatives vote at the CRD board. Even doing that is a step in the right direction.
