Re: “Hydro rates to rise 3 per cent, after rate freeze rejected,” March 2.

I find it despicable that B.C. Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson criticizes the NDP for proposing a rate freeze from B.C. Hydro, an NDP election promise that the B.C. Utilities Commission rejected.

I remind Wilkinson that it was the Liberal government robbing money from both ICBC and B.C. Hydro and the reckless spending on the Site C project by the then-premier that allowed both B.C. Hydro and ICBC to bleed and, as a result, determined their current disastrous state.

The Liberals broke more election promises than I can recall, and total mismanagement of these two operations was a direct result of former premier Christy Clark and her cabinet, of which Wilkinson was an irresponsible member. I find it hypocritical to call out the NDP for trying to do what is right for the people of this province when the Liberals could only provide lip service and money spent on “pie in the sky” and other pet projects to further their own interests.

I used to be a supporter of the Liberals, but unless they can curtail the rhetoric and show us that they are really willing to work for the common good of this province, they are only blowing “hot air.” At the moment, the NDP government deserves a chance to show what it can do, and Liberals criticizing it before it’s done is not the way to do it.
