Creativity, co-operation can resolve pipeline concerns

Times Colonist

We should focus on the positive future of B.C.. Let’s have the concerns with this Northern Gateway oil pipeline project calmly addressed. Can we mitigate the concerns with creative resolution and approve a responsible project? I support it.

As part of the world community, we require oil for our economy. I think our oil trade with other countries contributes to our economic wealth so we can afford the way we live and enhance the environment, and especially so that we can afford to develop new energy sources.

Human creativity will master the environmental problems without that creativity being crippled by sustainability demands and super-environmentalism.

Nothing in human endeavour can have a predestined outcome. Science and scientists can guarantee nothing. They can only give an educated guess as to what is the most favourable pathway to risk. Living is filled with risk-taking.

Consensus is where each party is confident that its concern is addressed enough to proceed, hopefully without politics and rhetoric.

Politics is the art and science concerned with winning and holding control over government and the governed. These activities are often concerned with artful and dishonest practices. The practitioners of politics focus themselves and us on the negative and the fearful. This leads to an entrenched negative “no” or a do-nothing methodology. It’s a choice to proceed in creating together or entrench in negativity and become fragmented in confusion. I support a responsible Northern Gateway Pipeline project.
