CRD will put us all in the poorhouse

Re: “Sewage program boss given $500,000 send-off,” Aug. 1.

Here we go again, another fiasco by the Capital Regional District.

They go out and hire someone to head the sewage program and pay him $290,000 a year. Then the crap hits the fan when Esquimalt doesn’t want anything to do with the sewage on their land.

So everything stops and the new head still gets his full pay for basically doing nothing and only has to manage four workers instead of 20.

So CRD says: “Well, let’s fire him and let the taxpayers pay him an enormous severance package. It’s not coming out of our pockets. The taxpayers won’t mind squandering a bit more money.” (As if $290,000 annually were peanuts.)

So what’s next, CRD? Raise all property taxes to pay for yet another mess you created.

The mayor of Esquimalt says she doesn’t think the time line the federal and provincial governments set has to be followed to the letter.

I’ll be anxious to see what happens when we are still messing around planning a sewer system when that final deadline comes.

By then we will probably go through several other high-paid managers and they will be collecting big severances as well.

Get a grip, CRD, before you put us all in the poorhouse (excluding you, of course).
