Esquimalt Mayor Barb Desjardins wants to see what the public thinks. Here is one opinion.

Esquimalt is being bought off with its taxpayers’ own money. And the smell of this mitigation deal is not perfume.

Mitigation is defined as “reducing the harmful effects of something” — in this case, of a bad plan. I suspect the Capital Regional District minions are so invested in this plan they are going to do whatever is necessary to avoid looking foolish.

Esquimalt council should refuse the McLoughlin Point rezoning — full stop. Stop this harebrained scheme driven not by proof of the need, but rather by local politicians’ accepting “the sky is falling“ environmental opinion.

Have local politicians accepted too quickly the current federal and provincial water-treatment legislation as it applies to our unique circumstance?
