Council is arrogant to set bag prices

Some of our city councillors obviously live on a different planet than most reasonable-thinking local residents.

They vote in favour of a city bylaw prohibiting the use of disposable plastic shopping bags. This is praiseworthy.

As part of the bylaw, they are instructing independent business owners not only to charge for brown paper bags and reusable shopping bags, but they have the arrogance to dictate how much they must charge.

Maybe the city should impose a tax on brown-bag and disposable shopping-bag sales to make enough money to supplement the cost of the bike lanes, as clearly they can set price and conditions of sale.
