Cougars kill naturally, but not humanely

Re: “Move the cougar to Oak Bay,” letter, May 19. Seriously? In any case, it is probably a good idea to let nature take its course, where possible. However, nature isn’t humane or sensitive; it is almost by definition brutal.

For the cougar, being shot at close range by an expert with a high-powered rifle would usually result in a quick and relatively painless death, particularly for an animal that doesn’t understand what is about to happen.

On the other hand, I doubt that a deer, adult or fawn, being mauled to death and eaten (quite possibly while still living), would consider that a humane and sensitive way to go. Natural, yes.
