The B.C. Sustainable Energy Association and Dogwood Initiative have organized a series of debates to provide voters in south Vancouver Island ridings an opportunity to hear the views of local federal candidates on climate change and renewable-energy alternatives to fossil fuels.
Regrettably, we will not hear the plans or policies of the governing party, as Conservative candidates have declined to participate. News stories indicate the “gag order” has come from the party’s leadership.
This is an astonishing disregard for democracy. I hope all voters will decry this unconscionable contempt for the rights of the electorate, and demand to hear from those who seek to represent us in Ottawa.
