Conflict in Syria is not civil war

The president of the U.S. Peace Council, Alfred Marder, would describe the situation in Syria something like this:

Syria is not engaged in a civil war.

Syria is a sovereign country recognized by the United Nations that is being invaded and destabilized by proxy mercenaries with direct support from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the U.S. and Israel with the goal of toppling the government of President Bashar al-Assad and replacing it with who knows what.

The wholesale oppression of the Syrian people has also included sanctions and the vilification of the Assad government by the mainstream media.

Given that U.S. President Donald Trump has long been claiming he supports a non-interventionist approach in Syria and appeared to be getting along nicely with Syria’s ally Russia, the Assad government, apart from risking harsh international condemnation, would have a great deal to lose by launching a horrific chemical attack on anyone.

It makes no sense whatsoever.
