It's a beautiful, sunny fall day. I should be outside working in the yard, doing farm chores or a thousand other things, but here I am shut in the house once again because of the stench from next door.
There is a full-on garbage-processing facility where a regal dairy farm once stood. They brought in enough fill to cover 10 acres nearly five metres deep in places, put up a fabric building, brought in a number of grinders, dump trucks, Bobcats, bulldozers, loaders, all with backup beepers. Today before noon there were already 14 trucks full of garbage, pallets, yard waste, etc., all trundling down Lochside Trail.
Better watch out, anyone walking, biking or otherwise trying to enjoy this world-renowned regional trail because Central Saanich council, in its wisdom, changed it to a commercial truck route.
We had more than 800 names on a petition the council ignored.
You may even be familiar with the smell driving down the Pat Bay Highway by the Co-op gas station at Tanner Road.
Central Saanich is proposing to change a bylaw that deals with compost facilities. On Dec. 5 at the municipal hall there will be a public hearing regarding this proposed bylaw change. Our whole neighbourhood is hoping you and your friends will come out to support us in insisting Central Saanich council keeps its bylaw and starts enforcing it.
