Community Living B.C. has wonderful goals. It has been established to assist families with disabled children. Children and Family Development Minister Stephanie Cadieux, when she assumed responsibility for the program, assured everyone that there would be a full review of their procedures and that the operations of CLBC would be transparent.
Unfortunately, this has not been the case. Since then, we have seen top officials of CLBC leave the organization and receive large severance packages. Further, there has been a restriction in the level of services provided to the families.
CLBC has not provided true caring for this most vulnerable part of our community. It seems that, at this point, many needs of the disabled and their families are being denied, or cut back.
Community Living B.C. and the government should be open about the level of service they are prepared to provide to their residents, and especially to those whom they are there to serve and protect.
We should listen carefully to the promises made to us over the next months, and hold those responsible for carrying out any promises which they make to assist those who are disabled, and their families.
