Re: "Downtown 'chuggers' rankle councillor," Nov. 15.
Perhaps Coun. Shellie Gudgeon should take a close look at her position in life where she has adequate housing, clean water and enough food, and her biggest worry is having her "downtown experience" disrupted by fundraisers.
These people are working hard not just to earn a meagre wage, but to help those less fortunate. I cannot imagine how one's passion to improve the lot of others can be perceived as offensive.
If some street fundraisers are overzealous in their approach it is because (a) they're struggling to keep their job in these difficult economic times, and (b) they know too well how much misery is in the world and they are doing all they can to ease the suffering of others. Is this a crime? I call it compassion.
