Can’t be too careful in minimizing risks

I am reassured that the parks department is looking out for us by closing dangerous campgrounds such as the one at Jordan River that might be inundated with a flood if the dam upstream gives way during a massive earthquake. (Uh, just wondering where would be safe during a quake of that magnitude?)

But yes, I totally agree with closing Jordan River. While we’re at it, better close China Beach campground too — that same earthquake will likely cause a tsunami and wash out that campground. Even Goldstream Park isn’t safe — a tree might fall on someone, and did you know bears have been sighted there, too? Better close Goldstream when the salmon run is on — can’t be exposing the public to that risk.

Oh, yes, the West Coast Trail is far too risky at the best of times — somebody might fall and break a leg. Even the beaches at Tofino are too dangerous now that the radioactivity from Japan is showing up.

Yup, close them all down. The only safe “wilderness experience” will be safely sitting in the IMAX theatre. But watch your step and please use the handrail.
