Transportation folk just about everywhere else in the world are busily working on transportation that’s efficient: steel-on-steel rail transportation.
We note on page 29 in Tuesday’s B.C. budget that $3.565 billion is slated for “transportation investment,” a good chunk of which is for Interior and Lower Mainland highways, rapid transit (Skytrain) and buses.
The safer and less-costly transportation mode, rail, is not mentioned — not even the E&N line, with its rails still in place.
We hope candidates elected on May 14 will move “rail” into their “transportation” category by putting a little of that $3.6 billion toward Vancouver Island’s rail system, capital region rail, Surrey’s street rail and Fraser Valley rail transit.
