I couldn't agree more with the writer. Breakfast is the fuel kids start their day on.
Having volunteered at my children's and grandchildren's elementary schools, I have seen lots of hungry kids.
You can tell by the look in their eyes that their little tummies are empty. Lots of times it's because everybody in the house is too busy getting themselves out the door or the whole family is dysfunctional or just plain poor.
A school breakfast program where kids can pick up a carton of milk and a muffin on the way to the classroom would go a long way to keeping things on an even keel for these little ones and make their day fun, instead of a trial to get through.
