Because I am familiar with someone in the tent city, I have had many occasions to visit. It has become clear to me that the “worker/client” model of public and private social-services agencies cannot adequately provide a solution to homelessness.

Most people are unaware that the provision of social and supported housing comes only after a rigorous “relationship” building between the homeless person and the state-sponsored social-service provider or worker.

These workers are selectively chosen for their jobs, and the homeless people elevated to supported housing using the same social-stratification systems that have been failing for centuries.

I and many other Victorians applaud Bishop Logan McMenamie and Rev. Al Tysick’s support of the people of the tent city and their right to self-determination.
