Re: “Port Renfrew businesses call for ban on logging in Walbran,” Dec. 15.
Accolades and cheers to the Port Renfrew Chamber of Commerce and to Tofino council for recognizing the long-term benefits of leaving Walbran Valley alone.
Representing 73 businesses, the Port Renfrew chamber is concerned with prosperity in the region. Tourism is a growth industry there. Where else might one experience seeing a 2,000-year-old tree?
All else aside, based solely on economic factors, it’s a no-brainer. Logging old-growth forest is just plain dumb. The thinking of the past no longer stands up to scrutiny; “the emperor has no clothes.”
Again, applause to those wise enough to oppose logging our ancient forests.
