Ferry system is like a bridge

A recent letter suggested that ferries should be thought of as being more like buses than planes.

I think ferries are more like bridges (or toll roads) which enable people and vehicles to get from one portion of highway to another. At its inception, B.C. Ferries was a division of the British Columbia Toll Highways and Bridges Authority.

This establishes ferries as an integral part of our provincial transportation infrastructure, requiring appropriate support from the provincial government and affordable "tolls" for users who generally have no alternatives.

Given this context, it is interesting to note that the provincial government has removed tolls from the Coquihalla Highway.
