Thumbs up To the Mill Bay/Malahat Historical Society, the organization behind historical signs and banners that have been popping up all over the south end of the Cowichan Valley. The campaign to celebrate local history includes aluminum signs and cloth banners, at strategic locations around the community, highlighting memories of bygone years.

Thumbs up To the team of Camosun College hospitality management students who raised more than $800 and collected 1,100 pieces of high-end business clothing, toiletries and cosmetics. They donated the items to Wear 2 Start, a downtown non-profit entity which helps to prepare lowincome women for interviews and jobs.

Thumbs down To the RCMP and the credit union in Chemainus for not checking more closely before publishing the image of an innocent woman wrongly identified as the suspect in a fraudulent transaction. The fraud occurred in December, and the image of the innocent person was published last week. Police have apologized, and the credit union has given the correct photograph to the police.
