Deer cull anything but humane

I am sick and tired of people and the media repeating the same fancy words improperly over and over again like parrots, thereby misleading the public about the real nature of the action.

Here are a few definitions from dictionaries:

"To cull" - to separate, select or pick out; to remove something that has been rejected;

"Euthanasia" - the act of putting to death painlessly a person (or animal) suffering from an incurable and painful disease or condition;

"Humane" - disposition to treat other human beings or animals with kindness; merciful, kind, compassionate.

None of these words applies to the case of lethal deer management. In fact, it would not be a selected removal of a few members of the herd - deer would be killed indiscriminately regardless of their species, gender or health condition. It is not euthanasia either, as deer would not be put down because of serious injury or an incurable disease.

Above all, the proposed net-and-bolt method which has been used elsewhere is certainly anything but humane and painless - it is brutal and barbaric.

Terms like these are commonly used with the clear intent to soften and diminish the seriousness of the intended action in the eyes of the public opinion. Let's tell it like it really is - an inhumane, unnecessary slaughter of innocent creatures which has no place in a 21st-century, civilized society living in the best place on Earth.
