Trial date set for lawsuit brought by ex-director of Spider-Man Broadway musical

NEW YORK, N.Y. - A trial date has been set for a federal lawsuit brought by the fired director of the Broadway show "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" after a settlement agreement fell through.

Manhattan federal Judge Katherine Forrest set a May 27 trial date on Thursday after lawyers for former director Julie Taymor asked that the case move forward because a settlement was never finalized.

Taymor filed a lawsuit in November 2011, saying her copyrighted written works were violated when she was fired last year and the musical's script was rewritten after the $75 million production had trouble getting past previews. It has since become successful.

Both sides had originally expected a quick settlement when they informed the judge on Aug. 30 that they had reached agreement.
