Obama says global community 'stands with us' following Connecticut shootings

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama is thanking foreign diplomats for the outpouring of support from around the world after the massacre at a Connecticut elementary school. Obama says after the shootings, quoting, "The entire world stands with us."

Obama said at a State Department reception Wednesday that he has been struck by the kindness expressed in makeshift memorials outside U.S. embassies and other demonstrations in unity with Americans dealing with the tragedy.

The president says the U.S. has stood with foreign countries after violent acts, tsunamis and earthquakes and now the global community is standing with the U.S.

He says the world response to the incident shows, quote, "There are more people of goodwill than people of ill-will."

Friday's shooting at in Newtown, Connecticut, killed 20 children and six adults.
