Aquatic centre proposal torpedoed

Cowichan Valley voters reject Kerry Park Recreation Centre overhaul

The Cowichan Valley Regional District’s plans for a new aquatic centre were sunk Saturday when a majority of people voted against borrowing millions to build it.

Residents in Mill Bay, Shawnigan Lake and Cobble Hill voted overwhelmingly against the proposal, which would have allowed the CVRD to borrow up to $25 million to overhaul the Kerry Park Recreation Centre in Mill Bay and add a swimming pool.

Preliminary results show 2,956 people voted no, while 1,743 voted yes.
