A windstorm is being blamed for hundreds of power outages across the Gulf Islands and in a few pockets on southern Vancouver Island.
More than 1,000 people are without power on Pender Island, almost 100 customers are without electricity on Galiano Island, and almost 200 on Mayne Island, with fewer than 100 in the dark in Ganges.
There are some small clusters of outages in Oak Bay, Saanich and North Saanich, also under investigation.
More than 6,000 customers were without power in south Vancouver Island within the first couple of hours of Sunday evenings windstorm that hit most parts of the Island.
Also on Sunday, B.C. Ferries cancelled several sailings on minor routes, and emergency responders were busy with blown electrical transmitters, downed trees and snapped power lines.
