Why do special-interest people insist on hoodwinking the public?

Before 1967, a private nine-hole course was run by Harry Eve on land rented from Lizzie McRae. In 1967, Saanich purchased the Cedar Hill golf lands from McRae for $1.2 million for development of a golf course and recreation centre.

Why is Saanich telling us that they have had the golf operation for 80 years? Maybe the truth, 45 years, doesn't spin as well. If they're lying about that, maybe the debt that we're funding is larger than they say.
