Nearly 5,000 B.C. Hydro customers on Vancouver Island are without power this morning, according to the companys website.
There are six outages on the South Island; in Duncan, North Cowichan, Oak Bay, Victoria and on Saltspring Island. A total of 2,489 homes are out. The causes are under investigation but the power is expected to be back on mid-morning.
On the North Island, 1,686 homes are without power in 10 outages in Campbell River, Courtenay, Nanaimo, Nanoose and North Cowichan. A tree fallen on wires is cause for some of the Nanaimo outages but the rest are under investigation.
Wild winds overnight and this morning might be cause for some of the power problems. Environment Canada has issued a weather warning for Vancouver Island, including Greater Victoria.
Low pressure is expected to pass over the south coast this morning, with developing strong southerly winds gusting up to 90 kilometres per hour.
