Saanich police recovered a vehicle that had been reported stolen on Saturday, but not before it crashed into a wall at Pearkes Recreation Centre.
A Saanich Police officer stopped the vehicle on Douglas Street at about 10 a.m., but the driver sped off, said Saanich police spokesman Staff Sgt. Todd Bryant. Police received numerous 911 calls about a vehicle being driven in a dangerous manner.
The vehicle was found abandoned at Pearkes Recreation Centre, by Tillicum Centre. Witnesses said that the driver jumped out before the crash, Bryant said.
A 27-year-old woman from Surrey was arrested. Police are recommending numerous charges including dangerous driving, escaping custody, possession of stolen property, failing to stop for police and breaching conditions.
