Saanich police are seeking information about a violent assault at a Harriet Street home Friday morning.Around 8:40 a.m., police were called to a home in the 3400-block of Harriet Road and found a 41-year-old man with a deep gash to the head. Witnesses said two men dressed in black had burst into the home, bandanas covering their faces. They allegedly pushed the owner down and went into a bedroom, where they hit the victim in the head and back with a metal object, possibly a pipe. The victim tried to defend himself with a baseball bat, but his attackers grabbed it from him. Both attackers then fled the home on bicycles. Another possible victim in the attack fled the scene before police arrived and has not been co-operative with investigators, said Sgt. Dean Jantzen, noting police have been called to the residence 271 times since 2007 for a variety of disturbances. The injured man was taken to hospital, where it took five staples to close his head wound. He has not been released, since police discovered two outstanding warrants for parole violations. The man remained in police custody while awaiting an appearance before a judge.Jantzen said police are following several leads, but are seeking more information.
