Authorities in two Prairie provinces are investigating a pair of deadly, early morning fires.

In Manitoba, fire crews were called to a burning house trailer in the Rural Municipality of Springfield, east of Winnipeg.

They found the trailer fully engulfed when they arrived and one person was found dead inside.

In Saskatoon, firefighters from five different crews responded to reports of an apartment fire in the city's east end.

An elderly woman was pulled from the apartment, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Damage from that blaze was pegged at $500,000.

Crews in Regina also battled a massive blaze Saturday at a multi-storey care home under construction in the city's east end.

The fire was on the city's outskirts, but the smoke could be seen from downtown.

About half of the building was destroyed.

"The fire can spread quickly through a building that's under construction," deputy fire chief Layne Jackson told radio station CKRM.

People had yet to move into the building.

Drywallers were doing work inside when the fire broke out.
